Vesod Paints Saint Peter's Upside-Down Crucifixion Beneath Rogliano's Duomo for Gulìa Urbana 2026

Vesod has completed a mural in Rogliano, Calabria, right under the Duomo of San Pietro. It shows the martyrdom of Saint Peter, depicted as being crucified upside down. Instead of drawing from traditional art history, Vesod incorporates the town itself: Gulìa Urbana illustrates Rogliano as part of the cross, while a vivid red backdrop symbolizes Saint Peter’s body through an image of rubies morphing into flesh, light, and sacrifice. This artwork interacts with its surroundings and, while it nods to the classic portrayal of Saint Peter's crucifixion, it remains firmly rooted in the local setting. The mural is part of Gulìa Urbana 2026, a street-art festival happening from September 1 to 6, celebrating its fifteenth year, funded by the Calabria Region under the POC 2014/2020 tourism and cultural initiative.
