Vector Architects clusters galleries around banyan trees near Guangzhou
Vector Architects has completed the Aranya Art Center Guangzhou, a cluster of art galleries arranged around a preserved 50-meter-long banyan tree avenue. Located at the Aranya Jiulong Lake holiday retreat, 45 kilometers from central Guangzhou, the complex breaks from the traditional 'white cube' museum model. The design integrates art into daily life, with galleries connected by gardens, plazas, and meandering corridors evoking a Chinese garden. The main art hall features a facade of textured glass bricks and translucent polycarbonate panels. Three freestanding galleries on the north side are linked by a covered walkway. An open pavilion anchors the west end, while the main hall sits at the east end. A community canteen on the northwest side serves both visitors and locals. Cantilevered roofs and a double-height arcade provide sheltered communal spaces. The design responds to south China's hot, humid climate. Vector Architects has built multiple projects for the Aranya retreat brand across China.
