VCUarts Interior Design students present nature-informed community spaces

Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar featured student projects from its Department of Interior Design, including a community space welcoming both people and wildlife. The projects, part of Thesis Studios and Senior Interior Design Studio II, were tutored by Laura Battaglia, Seung-Ho Lee, Kristin Carleton, and Roberto Ventura. Notable works include 'Now, Far Now' by Yelenna Angeles, a responsive system shaped by water that adapts to tides and seasons; 'Within the Ruin' by Karim Asarzadeh, a modern brewery and community hub at the historic James River Steam Brewery in Richmond, Virginia; 'Vitality' by Kristin Beach, a wellness centre for female collegiate athletes at VCU; and 'Returning – Reclaiming the Silos' by Ashley Nicole Pike, which transforms an industrial farming site into community gardens and a market. Other projects include 'A Return to Earth' by Lily Aun Corbin, an outdoor space for grief processing; 'A Familiar Place' by Diana Zagorodna, exploring memory and perception; 'Wooden Lung' by Elena Grace Curtusan, examining material and maker; 'Quiet Between' by Sarah Marsh, focusing on calm in recovery; 'Within the Flow' by Marley J Owens, celebrating mundane beauty; and 'Between Thresholds' by Nishchay Patel, choreographing movement through historic hangars at Naval Air Station Alameda. The school show is a partnership between Dezeen and VCUarts Qatar.
