Van Gogh documentary premieres on Sky Arte after blockbuster London show

Sky Arte will broadcast the documentary 'Van Gogh. Poeti e Amanti' on June 18, 2026, directed by David Bickerstaff and produced by Phil Grabsky under the Exhibition on Screen banner. The film originally debuted in cinemas through Nexo Studios' 'Grande Arte al Cinema' project. It revisits the National Gallery of London's sold-out exhibition 'Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers,' which ran from September 14, 2024, to January 19, 2025. That show marked only the second time in the museum's history that it remained open overnight, following a similar late-night opening for a Leonardo da Vinci exhibition. The documentary explores Van Gogh's revolutionary use of color, his move to southern France, and his mental health, focusing on themes of poetry and love. Key paintings featured include 'Starry Night Over the Rhône' (1888), 'The Yellow House' (1888), 'Sunflowers' (1888), and 'Van Gogh's Chair' (1889), along with rarely exhibited works and drawings. The exhibition was held during the National Gallery's bicentennial year.
