Valerio Berruti's Monumental Childhood Installation at Narni Città Teatro 2026
Valerio Berruti presents 'Figli degli uomini', a new public installation of five monumental aluminum sculptures depicting praying children, at the Narni Città Teatro festival in Narni, Italy, from September 11 to 13, 2026. Curated by Antonella Liuzzi, the visual arts section also features a video retrospective spanning over twenty years of Berruti's career, including works like 'Golgota' (2005) with music by Luciano Disarò, 'Come il vento tra i salici' (2016) with Gianmaria Testa, 'The Singer' with Nina Berruti, and 'La giostra di Nina (The Carousel)' (2018) with Ludovico Einaudi. The latter will be part of 'DAYDREAM – Air Becomes Art' at the Balloon Museum's first permanent location in New York from July 15, 2026, featuring a new version titled 'The Carousel' with 18 suspended fiberglass birds, alongside works by Marina Abramović and Martin Creed. Berruti's exploration of childhood as a universal symbol of vulnerability and hope continues themes from his 2011 series 'Nel suo nome' at the Museum of the City of Belgrade and 'Nel nome del padre', exhibited at Fondazione Ferrero in Alba and Palazzo Reale in Milan. The festival, directed by Francesco Montanari and Davide Sacco, aims to integrate contemporary art with Narni's historical heritage.
