exhibition · 2026-09-06

The David Nolan Gallery, located in Tribeca, is showcasing "Alice in the Land of Violence," marking the first exhibition in New York for Italian artist Valerio Adami in over twenty years. Born in Bologna in 1935, Adami's work is featured in the gallery's new space, including 16 paintings and 15 drawings primarily created between 1962 and 1967, with the exception of "Hotel Pulitzer," which he completed this year at 91. A graduate of a Milan art school in 1955, Adami later settled in Paris, where he connected with artists such as Roberto Matta and Richard Hamilton. His 1960s creations, influenced by Pop Art, also incorporate elements of surrealism and expressionism, positioning him for increased recognition in America alongside Giorgio Morandi, Alberto Burri, and Francesco Clemente.
