Valaya Villa by tHE gRID Architects: A Climate-Responsive Home in Ahmedabad

Valaya Villa, designed by tHE gRID Architects Research and Design Studio, is a 8762 ft² private residence in Ahmedabad, India, set for completion in 2026. The project prioritizes climate-responsive design over visual statements, using the site's orientation to manage heat and light. The south-west side, which receives maximum weather impact, is treated differently from the north-east, which offers softer daylight and favorable airflow. The clients sought a home that remains connected to the outdoors while ensuring privacy and shelter. Lead architects Snehal Suthar, Bhadri Suthar, and Manasvini Suthar led the design team, with interiors and landscape by The Grid Architects. The name 'Valaya' derives from Sanskrit, meaning a protective circle, reflecting the architectural concept of safeguarding what lies within. Photographs by Vinay Panjwani document the project.
