V&A East Museum Opens in London's Olympic Park with Architecture Inspired by Fashion

V&A East, a new museum in London's Olympic Park, has opened with architecture designed by Dublin-based firm O'Donnell + Tuomey. The building's design draws inspiration from fashion concepts, including the folds in a sleeve from a Vermeer painting at the National Gallery of Ireland and the work of Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga. Architect John Tuomey explained that ideas of draping, concealment, and the space between fabric and body influenced the structure. The museum features bold lines and simple interiors, housing a diverse collection that includes Leigh Bowery's pink sequined codpiece among other objects. Located in Stratford, the building represents the second addition to the area's skyline and serves as a home for art, people, and creativity.
