UV Lab's 486 hand-folded metal panels form 'Mar Nostro' in Marseille

UV Lab has introduced 'Mar Nostro', a site-specific installation at Palais du Pharo in Marseille, featuring 486 meticulously hand-folded metal panels that overlook the Mediterranean Sea. This structure acts as both a memorial and a communal space, reflecting on themes of migration and cultural connections while paying tribute to those who have perished at sea. Visitors are welcomed through a landscape of folded metal, with the interior designed to create an immersive atmosphere through interplay of light and shadow. Collaboratively constructed with the Cité des Arts de la Rue, 'Mar Nostro' challenges notions of historical ownership and recalls the Lingua Franca of Mediterranean ports. The installation, reminiscent of a ship's hull, opens toward Africa, Asia, and Europe, symbolizing migration and exchange.
