US and Iran Near Deal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz at G7 Summit

An agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is on the verge of being finalized between the United States and Iran, potentially during the upcoming G7 summit in Evian, France, next week. This deal would prolong the existing ceasefire by approximately two months and initiate further discussions regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions. In return for Iran's commitment to reopen the strait, the US plans to remove its blockade on Iranian ports. A senior Iranian official has suggested that a deal is likely, as confirmed by a G7 representative and a diplomat. Vice President J.D. Vance and special envoy Steve Witkoff will represent US President Donald Trump. The signing might occur as soon as Sunday in Geneva, Switzerland, close to Evian. The G7 comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with the EU also participating.
