UNTRANSLATED at VOLTA Basel 2026 Explores Global South Memory and Diaspora

The Southern Art Hub and Janet Rady Fine Art present UNTRANSLATED at VOLTA Basel 2026, a curatorial project featuring four women artists: Bisila Noha, Luma Nascimento, Pantea Mahrou, and Sabrina Da Silva Medeiros. The exhibition examines how memory is carried through materials, landscapes, rituals, and lived experience across Brazil, Iran, Spain, Equatorial Guinea, and the wider diaspora. Noha, based in London with roots in Spain and Equatorial Guinea, uses ceramics as a living archive of migration and ancestry. Nascimento, from Brazil, incorporates Afro-Brazilian cosmologies and computational processes in sculpture and performance. Mahrou, Iranian, explores displacement and feminine experience through layered surfaces. Medeiros, working between São Paulo and Paris, uses charcoal, ash, and medicinal plants in her practice. The show includes works like Nascimento's 'Body of Conversion' (2026) and Mahrou's 'Amlash Prosperity Embrace' (2023). The collaboration emphasizes cultural memory, material research, and contemporary questions of identity and belonging.
