Underline Studio's Editorial Design for Ryerson Science Faculty

Underline Studio has created an editorial design system for Ryerson University's Faculty of Science, marking five years of campus growth. The publication features a custom-drawn number five on its uncoated cover, integrating lab flasks, circuit lines, gears, and formulas. Bright color blocks, including warm yellow on deep royal blue dividers, energize sections, while full-bleed city photos capture the downtown Toronto campus. The interior employs a strict grid system with tall vertical words marking departments, bold white titles for Chemistry, Computer Science, Math, and Physics, and high-contrast typography for profiles and data milestones. Large numbers highlight female student enrollment and research grants. Clean sans-serif type ensures dense charts are readable, and wide margins provide breathing room. Faculty profiles add human warmth, with portraits in labs and classrooms, and articles on teaching tools and tech firm ties. Uncoated paper gives a tactile feel, and crisp spine text aids shelf presence. The design balances structured reports with visual rhythm, turning complex records into a lively visual history.
