UN Warns 19.2 Million Afghans Could Face Acute Food Insecurity This Winter
The United Nations' humanitarian organization, OCHA, forecasts that this winter, over 19 million individuals in Afghanistan will face severe food insecurity. According to their report, from September to October, approximately 15.9 million Afghans—about one-third of the population—were already experiencing crisis levels or worse, with 3.4 million in emergency situations. OCHA cautioned that next year, more than four million infants and children under six will need treatment for acute malnutrition, and the crisis is expected to impact millions of young children by 2027. This warning was issued by the UN on Tuesday.
