Umberto Bignardi's 'Lo spettacolo delle immagini' at Vistamare Milan

Vistamare Milan presents 'Umberto Bignardi. Lo spettacolo delle immagini', a survey of the late Italian artist (1935–2022) curated by Lorenzo Madaro. The exhibition juxtaposes works from the 1950s to the 2010s without chronological order, emphasizing Bignardi's lifelong exploration of image construction. Three large canvases from 1958–1959, described as 'failed monochromes', feature dominant colors disrupted by underlying canvas textures and residual hues. Later works include collages and paintings that recycle motifs—such as a percentage symbol appearing in both 'Il tramonto dell’Occidente' (2014) and 'Olivia e Angelica Pacifica' (1994). Bignardi, who moved from Bologna to Rome to study at the Accademia di Belle Arti, engaged with artists like Alberto Burri, Gastone Novelli, Giosetta Fioroni, and Tano Festa, yet maintained a peripheral position within the Roman Pop scene. The show runs until September 19, 2026.
