Ugo Rondinone's waterfall at Gladstone Gallery: Twelve Gemstone-Resin Sculptures with the Artist's Hair and Nail Ashes

exhibition · 2026-10-04

From September 17 to October 31, 2026, Ugo Rondinone's waterfall installation will be showcased at the Gladstone Gallery's 21st Street venue in New York. This exhibit includes twelve towering sculptures, ranging from 3.5 to 6 meters in height, crafted from transparent resin mixed with pigments derived from crushed gemstones such as lapis lazuli and amethyst. The artworks evoke the appearance of frozen waterfalls and incorporate ashes from Rondinone's hair and nails, merging organic and geological aspects. Additionally, three previous pieces are integrated into the gallery's structure: an aluminum zero with incense smoke, a hand imprint, and a bronze keyhole. Born in 1964 in Brunnen, Switzerland, Rondinone has gained international recognition for his explorations of transformation, mortality, nature, and the connection between humans and landscapes.
