Uffizi Hangs Botticelli's 'Primavera' and 'Birth of Venus' Opposite Each Other for First Time

In a significant update revealed on Wednesday, the Uffizi Galleries in Florence have positioned Sandro Botticelli's 'Primavera' (c. 1480) and 'The Birth of Venus' (c. 1485) directly across from one another for the first time. This change is part of the refurbishment of the Botticelli Rooms, which now feature digital displays, enhanced lighting, and modernized display cases. Sixteen Botticelli pieces are showcased in the two rooms, including 'Portrait of a Man with a Medal of Cosimo the Elder' and 'Stories of Judith' in newly recessed cases. 'The Birth of Venus' is accompanied by 'Madonna of the Magnificat' (c. 1483) and 'Madonna of the Pomegranate' (c. 1487). Director Simone Verde described the initiative as a key step in 'reuniting' the Medici legacy, aligning with a larger reorganization of the Uffizi that began in 2023.
