architecture-design · 2026-09-21

At the Chelsea College of Arts campus, the University of the Arts London (UAL) has established a permanent archive dedicated to student and graduate design within the Atterbury Flat. This two-bedroom space, housed in a Grade II listed building, had served visiting dignitaries since 2005. Spearheaded by UAL lecturer Zoë Tynan-Campbell alongside co-curators Abigail Rigby and Bhairavi Yogasivam, the initiative involved contributions from over 400 participants across 58 courses, culminating in the acquisition of 117 pieces for £61,686, which represents 91.98% of the total budget. The archive was showcased during the London Design Festival from 12 to 20 September and includes distinctive items such as a colour-changing chair and custom tiles by Emma Louise Payne. Tynan-Campbell regards it as an innovative model for commissioning student creations.
