UAD Designs Xuanpu Pavilion for Zhejiang University's Zhoushan Campus Anniversary

UAD designed the Xuanpu Pavilion, also known as the Hanging Waterfall Pavilion, to mark the 10th anniversary of Zhejiang University's Zhoushan campus and the 15th anniversary of its marine disciplines. Located in Zhoushan, China, the 50-square-meter structure was completed in 2024. Curated by Han Shuang, the project was led by architect Sun Xiaoye with a design team including Huang Yunshan and Su Liang. Instead of a conventional commemorative sculpture, the team created an experiential and interactive space for daily rest, dialogue, and contemplation by faculty and students. The pavilion houses a symbolic spiritual core, reinterpreting commemoration for the serene, sea-surrounded campus. Photography was handled by Chen Xi Studio. Additional contributors included structural engineers Zhang Zhengyu and Lu Junfeng, water supply and sewerage engineer Wang Yibei, electromechanical engineer Zheng Wenjun, landscape designer Huang Lu, lighting designer Liu Yihan, and signage designer Zhan Fangyuan. The original campus design team executed this project, which was commissioned by Zhejiang University.
