Tymon de Laat Unveils 11-by-7-Metre Mural "Shared Harvest" in Uden's Flatwijk Neighbourhood

artist · 2026-09-30

Tymon de Laat has completed a mural titled Shared Harvest (Vrucht der verbinding), measuring 11 by 7 metres, on an apartment building in Uden's Flatwijk area. This artwork, created with spray paint and latex for the housing corporation Area, features a young girl of Dutch and Korean heritage dressed in a hanbok, holding a basket filled with cherries and cherry blossoms. Located at Wilhelminastraat 1, it greets those entering the town. De Laat connects the cherry to two cultures linked to the fruit and its blossoms, while warm grey hues and the nearby Bedaf landscape root the image in Uden. He views the basket as a symbol of the legacy passed down to younger generations, with a circle in the design representing the bond between the old and young, reflecting the community's influence on the mural. Months of discussions with Flatwijk residents preceded the project. The mural was commissioned by Area after renovations obscured a previous artwork on the building, with input from local memories of the neighborhood and its former cherry orchards informing the new piece. The basket also contains smaller local elements, including Peerke Verschiet from the earlier mural and Uden's Sint-Petruskerk. De Laat presents the painting as a homage to Uden's history and the youth growing up there, with the harvest basket encapsulating its rich past.
