Twobo's Casa Sota la Mola blends into the red landscape of Matadepera
Twobo Arquitectura has completed Casa Sota la Mola, a single-family home in Matadepera, Barcelona, at the foot of the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac natural park. The project responds to a couple with two young children who wanted a home reflecting sensitivity to design and architectural integration; one owner spent childhood summers in Matadepera and, after fifteen years in Australia, sought to reconnect with the territory. The house is organized in two volumes on one floor: a common area with kitchen, dining, and living room, and a private zone with bedrooms around an interior patio. The design uses fragmented volumes and materials that harmonize with the reddish terrain, aiming to blend into the landscape. Pigmented red concrete serves as both structure and finish, leaving visible traces of wooden formwork that add artisanal warmth. Catalan vaults define the main spaces, creating a sculptural atmosphere. A large rock unearthed during excavation was preserved and integrated into the interior patio. The exterior vegetation remains largely untouched. The architects cite Alvar Aalto's Muuratsalo house as a reference. The project was developed from 2021 to 2025, with construction from 2023 to 2025.
