Tulane University architecture students propose wetland restoration for New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward

Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment has presented thesis projects from its 2026 graduating class, including a proposal to restore native wetland ecosystems in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward. The project, by student Hayden C. Blodgett, envisions a constructed canal-bayou network to improve drainage, provide housing armature, and combat post-Hurricane Katrina stagnation. Other projects address scaffolding in New York City (Caleb Schroeder), communal spaces in Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh (Emma Lindley), and the revitalization of Rosenwald Schools in DeRidder, Louisiana (Abigail Sakawat). The thesis studio was tutored by Ammar Eloueini, Juan Medina, Emilie Taylor Welty, Iñaki Alday, Fallon Samuels Aidoo, Edson Cabalfin, Margarita Jover, and Sergi Serrat. The school show is a partnership between Dezeen and Tulane University.
