Tsukumo Kiln Ceramics Studio by Dept.EPT Opens in Rural Kobe
Dept.EPT has completed Tsukumo Kiln, an 80 m² ceramics studio in rural Kobe, Japan, in 2023. The project, curated by Miwa Negoro, was designed to integrate ceramic creation and firing processes with the natural surroundings. Instead of a conventional enclosed workshop, the architecture features a simple, open structure that connects interior activities to light, weather, and the landscape. The design team included OAAA, with Makoto Nakamura as principal architect and ATELIER TUAREG providing structural engineering. Photographs are by HIROSHI NAKAMURA. The studio falls under the cultural architecture category and was submitted by the project team.
