Trump threatens NBC's Kristen Welker with FCC punishment over endorsement coverage

US President Donald Trump has threatened NBC journalist Kristen Welker with possible punishment by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) after she commented on his endorsement record in party primaries. Trump, speaking on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, called Welker the "unpopular 'hostess' of the once great Meet the Press talk show" and objected to her statement that he had had "mixed results" in endorsements. He insisted his endorsements had been successful 98 to 100 percent of the time. Welker, appearing on a local NBC affiliate, said Trump would "loom large over these midterms" and noted that his recent pick, Senator Darline Graham, had won her primary. Trump responded by saying that because of "this purposeful inaccuracy," Welker would be reported to the FCC for "rebuke or punishment." The FCC is the US agency that assigns and oversees broadcast licenses. The threat comes ahead of November's midterm elections, highlighting tensions between the former president and the media.
