Trump's Name to Appear in Winning Penn Station Redesign

The design chosen for the renovation of New York's Penn Station, a project costing nearly $8 billion under the Trump administration, prominently displays President Donald Trump's name alongside the presidential seal on a wall. Renderings unveiled on June 8 depict a Beaux-Arts-style facade adorned with large American flags, gold-toned bronze railings, a terracotta skyline, and an eagle motif. The Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU), led by Vishaan Chakrabarti, spearheaded the design, which he characterized as featuring a "commonplace" presidential seal but did not comment on Trump's name. Managed by Penn Transformation Partners, including Vornado and Halmar, the project will elevate low ceilings, replace the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden with elevators, and enhance natural lighting. The Trump administration assumed control of the project from the MTA last spring, a decision supported by Governor Kathy Hochul, who claimed it would save taxpayers over a billion dollars. Construction is expected to commence in 2027.
