Trump Proposes Gilded Triumphal Arch for Washington with Winged Figure and Lions

The US Commission on Fine Arts has published a 12-page proposal outlining President Donald Trump's vision for a grand triumphal arch in Washington. This monumental structure is designed to stand 250 feet high, featuring a winged figure with a torch and crown, flanked by two eagles and protected by four gilded lions. The arch would bear the inscriptions "One Nation Under God" and "Liberty and Justice for All" in gold. Trump contends that Washington is missing such a landmark, unlike other major cities worldwide, and highlighted that earlier attempts, disrupted by the Civil War and a failed effort in 1902, were never realized. The arch is proposed to be situated between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. Trump revealed this plan on Friday, having first mentioned it in February, and the Lincoln Memorial's height of 99 feet would be overshadowed by the new arch.
