Trump Announces Bulletproof and Drone-Proof Ballroom for White House

President Donald Trump has defended his controversial plans for a new ballroom at the White House, emphasizing security features. During a White House event, Trump stated the new building will be "bulletproof," "drone-proof," and in many cases even "missile-proof." Plans include reinforced steel and glass structures and a drone landing pad on the roof. Trump described the ballroom as a "great service" to national security. Construction began in fall 2025 on the site of the former East Wing of the White House. According to the White House, the several-thousand-square-meter expansion will enable significantly larger state banquets than the current building. The project is highly controversial due to costs, procurement procedures, and alterations to the historic White House ensemble, and has been the subject of multiple lawsuits. Trump complained that nowadays people sue over every little thing—the size of the room or the color of the ceiling—especially if one is named Trump.
