TROP designs Yanlord Arcadia as a 'Garden-within-a-Garden' in Shanghai

TROP: terrains + open space, a landscape architecture firm, has finalized Yanlord Arcadia, a residential landscape initiative in Shanghai, centered on the idea of a 'Garden-within-a-Garden.' The design reimagines a vast central courtyard into four linked garden areas: 'Veiled in Glimmers,' 'Lanterns in Sequence,' 'Half Water, Half Forest,' and 'Entering Tranquility.' Each area boasts unique features, including translucent frosted glass pavilions, reflecting pools, a 40-meter lap pool, timber decks, and flowing water elements. The masterplan discreetly incorporates a fire access route around the perimeter and an east-west landscape axis connecting the main entrance, central courtyard, and outdoor theater. Drawing from the Japanese Engawa concept, the arrival sequence offers a semi-outdoor threshold with a covered colonnade, fostering a harmonious blend of communal and private spaces while linking residential buildings to the landscape. Commercial zones are arranged as an urban green corridor, with upper-floor folded landscapes creating seating terraces that provide elevated views.
