Trailcenter Rytterknægten by Matters Architects Opens in Bornholm's Almindingen Forest

Matters architects has completed the Trailcenter Rytterknægten, a 100 m² hiking hub situated 162 meters above sea level at Bornholm's highest point, within Almindingen, Denmark's third-largest forest. The project, designed in 2021 and built in 2025, is part of the national Danish Trailcentres initiative, which creates buildings to promote outdoor activities and nature access across the country. It was driven by the DIF and Lokale & Anlægsfonden, in collaboration with the regional municipality of Bornholm. The pavilion provides visitors with unique access to the island's varied terrain and rich biodiversity through a series of panoramic viewing points and recreational areas. The design team includes Marja Elisabeth Eden, with technical input from Line Bruus; the office is led by architects Marie-Louise Holst and Lotte Rønne. Photography is by Rasmus Hjortshøj | COAST. The project falls under the categories of Installations & Structures and Sports Architecture, and is located in Aakirkeby.
