Trackie McLeod Turns WAG Culture and Wagatha Christie Into Scripture at OOF Gallery
A confessional booth where visitors judge the High Court transcript of Vardy v Rooney sits at the centre of Trackie McLeod's new OOF Gallery exhibition, Money. Success. Fame. Glamour. Opening 30 October 2026 and running to 26 February 2027, the show takes the 2006 World Cup as its cultural starting point, when England's WAGs — Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole among them — drew nearly as much attention as the players after descending on Baden-Baden, Germany. McLeod, born in 1993 and raised in Whiteinch, Glasgow, describes a 2000s childhood spent obsessing over pop culture, glossy magazines and Footballers' Wives, and recalls staying up an extra hour to watch the show. In his reading, the 2006 tournament marked the moment the WAG became a celebrity in her own right, needing only to be famous. THE LAST SUPPER recasts the WAGs through a familiar religious composition, while CATCH-22 and HOOLIGANS WITH VISAS examine press treatment of the women more critically. The Glasgow-based Scottish artist works across sculpture, textiles, print, video and installation, addressing masculinity, queerness, class and politics; football here is a stage rather than a subject. Earlier projects include Soft Play at Charleston in Sussex and UTOPIA at Factory International in Manchester, which turned the space into a working pub with drinks and darts. OOF Gallery, housed inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, frames its programme around football's intersection with contemporary art and wider society.
