Tracey Rose Solo Exhibition at Ruby City Opens June 2026
From June 6, 2026, to May 9, 2027, Ruby City in San Antonio, Texas, will host a solo show featuring South African artist Tracey Rose. This exhibition marks the first time her video performance “TKO” (2000) and a set of 62 drawings will be displayed together. Created during her 2000 residency at Artpace, these pieces explore ideas of endurance, identity, and transformation through boxing and intuitive drawing. In “TKO,” Rose uses a heavy bag with cameras to turn her physical movements into a commentary on creativity and resistance. Born in Durban in 1974, she studied at the Johannesburg Art Foundation, earning a BA in 1996 and an MFA in 2007. Ruby City, founded by Linda Pace, offers free entry, with a special opening on June 6.
