exhibition · 2026-10-01

Tracey Rose is set to unveil her exhibition SAN PEDRO V OMNIBUS: U’R A NATION on October 4, 2026, at CENTRÅL, located at 16 Viljoen Street, Lorentzville, Johannesburg. The showcase will celebrate two decades of her artistry, featuring notable works such as San Pedro V: The Hope I Hope (2005) and Waiting for God (2005–2011). The highlight will be the piece If Hitler Was A Girl Who Went To Art School, incorporating A.I. video by Adilson De Oliveira and contributions from various artists. This exhibition follows recent controversies involving the removal of her work from Kunstmuseum Bern and Bergen.

Key facts

  • SAN PEDRO V OMNIBUS: U’R A NATION opens on Sunday, 4 October 2026, at CENTRÅL, Victoria Yards, 16 Viljoen Street, Lorentzville, Johannesburg.
  • The exhibition includes works spanning more than twenty years, such as San Pedro V: The Hope I hope (2005), Waiting for God (2005–2011), Ol’ Jerusalem Pussy (2005–07), A Muster of Peacocks: THE SHOAH (2012), and If Hitler Was A Girl Who Went To Art School (2024–2025).
  • If Hitler Was A Girl Who Went To Art School features A.I. video design by Adilson De Oliveira and A.I. audio design by Working Horse, with additional illustrations by Nate Higgers and an a cappella epilogue by McCloud aka VAMPIRO.
  • CENTRÅL is run by Tracey Rose, Adilson De Oliveira, Nabil Assaf, and Eric Charles Wright.
  • Kunstmuseum Bern stated there was 'no censorship' and that Rose followed its advice not to show A Muster of Peacocks: THE SHOAH; Rose and her team called that account a 'blatant lie'.
  • In 2005, Linda Givon helped finance Rose's trip to Jerusalem, where Rose performed as San Pedro at the separation wall, playing Hatikva badly and urinating on the concrete.
  • The exhibition is described as an unauthorized rebroadcast of material that behaved badly the first time, not a sanitized retrospective.
  • Bergen showed If Hitler Was A Girl Who Went To Art School, but the institution's enthusiasm diminished once the work was seen in person.
