Toronto Biennial of Art 2026 expands across North America with water-themed exhibition

Allison Glenn will curate the 2026 Toronto Biennial of Art, titled 'Things Fall Apart,' featuring over 30 artists and collectives. Seventeen new commissions will respond to Toronto's environment, exploring syncopation and rupture through water as a connecting theme. The exhibition will trace global waterways from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean, and Persian Gulf. For the first time, the biennial extends beyond Greater Toronto to include projects in Detroit, New York, and Anchorage. Glenn, who grew up in Detroit, stated that water connects distant geographies as both resource and historical witness. The expanded footprint reflects site-responsive work by artists addressing histories across vast waterways. The event runs from 26 September to 20 December 2026.
