Tohé Commaret's New Film Debuts at Spike Island, Bristol

Tohé Commaret, the recipient of the 2026 PONTOPREIS MMK, is showcasing her inaugural institutional solo exhibition at Spike Island in Bristol. This exhibition, entitled 'Mijitas,' will be open until September 6, 2026, and features a new film produced for ZOLLAMT. Commaret's artistic exploration delves into concepts of identity, belonging, and class through intricate, seemingly ordinary visual landscapes. The film portrays multiple generations as they navigate diverse cultures, realities, and societal fringes, highlighting protagonists who are both self-aware and inquisitive. Set in a banqueting hall adorned with Ionic columns, inexpensive chandeliers, and round tables draped in cream tablecloths, the atmosphere suggests a transitional phase between events. The Jürgen Ponto-Stiftung, in partnership with the Museum für Moderne Kunst, grants the PONTOPREIS MMK every two years. Born in 1992 in Vitry-sur-Seine, France, Commaret infuses her work with a bittersweet yet dynamic viewpoint.
