Timeless Tintoretto at Musée Jacquemart-André: First French Survey of the Venetian Master

exhibition · 2026-05-04

"Timeless Tintoretto," an extensive exhibition dedicated to Jacopo Robusti, better known as Tintoretto, opens on 11 September 2023 at the Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris. Co-curated by Neville Rowley, Giovanni Carlo Federico Villa, and Pierre Curie, this showcase delves into Tintoretto's impact on French art, spanning from Jean-Honoré Fragonard to Paul Cézanne. The exhibition features approximately 40 pieces, including the notable altarpiece "Saint Catherine of Alexandria and an Angel" (1560–70), previously owned by David Bowie, and "The Creation of the Animals" (1550–53). Additionally, it contrasts Tintoretto's self-portrait (1588) with Édouard Manet's 1854 reproduction and Ingres's "Aretino in the Studio of Tintoretto" (1848). The exhibition is set to continue until 24 January 2027.
