Tide of Returns at Ocean Space Explores Repatriation Through Art

The exhibition "Tide of Returns" is set to run at Ocean Space in Venice from March 28 to October 11, 2026, during the 61st Venice Art Biennale. Curated by Khadija von Zinnenburg Carroll, it features insights from the Repatriates Collective, showcasing work from artists, filmmakers, and Indigenous communities from Australia, various African regions, Europe, and Latin America. In the west wing, visitors can see "From My Mother’s Country," an installation by the Repatriates Collective, which includes reddish sand from Anindilyakwa Country and various crafted figures. Over in the east wing, German-Bolivian artist Verena Melgarejo Weinandt presents "Weaving Connections," along with a performance during the Biennale's opening. The exhibition also marks the return of 23 objects to Namibia and 174 items to the Warnindilyakwa community. A research room on the Venetian Lagoon's legal status will also be featured.
