THEVERYMANY's Moonrise Pavilion Opens at Chattanooga Trailhead

Marc Fornes / THEVERYMANY has completed Moonrise, a permanent aluminum dome pavilion at the Wheland Foundry Trailhead in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The structure is a double-layer shell made from custom-fabricated aluminum strips just three millimeters thick, joined with rivets to form an interlocking system that gains strength through geometry. Its surface is opened by circular cuts that frame sky, foliage, and passing clouds, casting round patches of light onto the concrete floor. The pavilion draws on Buckminster Fuller's efficiency principles, translated through computational design and digital production. Visitors can sit on low concrete cylinders or move through arched openings. The project extends the studio's research into structures that sit between architecture, art, and engineering, using extremely thin materials to produce large self-supporting forms.
