The Krank's 500-Sqm Land Art on Othonoi Confronts Offshore Drilling

The Krank, a visual artist, has unveiled "The Hunt," a temporary land art piece spanning 500 square meters on Aspri Ammos beach in Othonoi, Greece, as part of the Ionian Lab residency program. This installation looks out towards Block 2 in the northern Ionian Sea, located approximately 10 kilometers from the designated offshore drilling site. By contrasting ancient hunting figures with contemporary extraction symbols, the artwork highlights a common human drive to dominate and utilize resources. The machine is depicted as an agent altering the landscape, while the figures serve as remnants of a territory on the verge of industrialization. Constructed by hand from strips of black geotextile and local pebbles, the installation prompted initial concerns about environmental impact among visitors. However, upon realizing its temporary nature, their attention shifted to the horizon, fostering a collective contemplation of the area's impending change.
