The Imperial Bloomsbury Reopens with Interiors by Trevillion and Keane Brands

The Imperial Bloomsbury, a 357-room hotel at 61, 66 Russell Sq, London WC1B 5BB, has reopened following a redesign. Originally opened in 1905 in a building designed by Charles Fitzroy Doll, the property retains its concrete façade, restored by Cube Design, while Trevillion Interiors and Keane Brands reimagined the interiors as a tribute to the area’s creative spirit. Keane told Wallpaper* they avoided a period interior, treating the building’s history as layers: its original Edwardian, neo-Gothic character and later bold modernist architecture. The existing concrete and geometric forms became a “Brutalist canvas,” softened with midcentury furniture, warm textures, seasonal colour and integrated lighting. Curated artwork and Bloomsbury references bring a sense of place. The Hideaway room features a small outdoor terrace with seating and a hidden bathtub under a pavilion. On the tenth floor, Arcus bar offers panoramic views, a cocktail list and a light food menu; the steak and lamb tacos were praised. The gym includes Technogym machines, free weights and kettlebells, plus an outdoor terrace. The Bell Room and Terrace, named for five bells on the adjoining terrace, is reserved for guests in City, Horizon, Hideaway, Nest and Beacon rooms.
