Tetsuo Kobori Architects Unveils Common Nexus University for Tokai Higher Education System

The National Higher Education and Research System of Tokai commissioned Common Nexus (ComoNe) as a shared space for knowledge and innovation, designed to foster connections between the university and the community, among people, and between past and future. Tetsuo Kobori Architects was selected for the project through a competitive proposal call held in 2021. The mixed-use university and community building, completed in 2025, is located in Tokai, Japan. The project team includes Konishi Structural Engineers for structural engineering, P.T. Morimura & Associates for electrical and mechanical equipment design, Landscape Plus for landscape design, Machida Sekkei for stormwater drainage, Akeno Facility Resilience for disaster prevention planning, and Sawada Lighting Design & Analysis for lighting design. The design reflects the institution's vision of creating a common ground where the university and the wider community can interact and innovate together.
