Territorio Estudio Completes Rural School in San Andrés Huayapam, Oaxaca

architecture-design · 2026-10-02

Territorio Estudio has completed a 225 m² rural school in San Andrés Huayapam, Oaxaca, Mexico, in 2023. The project, led by architects Néstor Esteva and María Díaz Gámez, with technical team member Leslie Tamayo, structural consultant Herrería Gaytán, and environmental and sustainability consultant Juan Francisco de León, reimagines contemporary educational spaces. The design centers on creating shade through a lightweight, flexible, open roof structure that fosters dialogue between people, nature, and architecture. The building adapts to preexisting site conditions, dissolving boundaries between interior and exterior. Photographs are by Sandra Pereznieto, and the project is curated by Hadir Al Koshta. The school falls under the category of schools and was submitted by the project team.
