Templo Mami Dan: Contemporary Architecture for Vodun Heritage in Benin

Maison Bignon Sossou has designed the Templo Mami Dan, part of the Centro Cultural Toligbé in Benin, as a contemporary reinterpretation of sacred Vodun landscapes. The 770 m² project, set for completion in 2026, serves both as a spiritual sanctuary and a cultural destination. Curated by Miwa Negoro, the temple uses modern architectural language rooted in local knowledge, materials, and collective memory to preserve and transmit living African cultural heritage. The design team includes principal architect Bignon Sossou, technical engineer Boris Djodji, and structural consultant Jaime Pena Studio. Photographs by Thysia More Empire document the project.
