TEKI Design's 2050 Coffee Shinsaibashi Opens Along Osaka's Midosuji Axis
In Osaka, Japan, TEKI Design has unveiled a new location for 2050 Coffee on Midosuji, incorporating diagonal shapes, curves, and a vertical layout into the historic north-south axis of the boulevard. Spanning 57.62 square meters next to the Shinsaibashi shopping arcade, the café reinterprets the street's horizontal flow within a compact space that elevates movement. Instead of mirroring Midosuji's linearity, the design juxtaposes angled structures against the straight axis, offering dynamic views and altering movement directions. Originally a pilgrimage route during the Edo period, Midosuji evolved into Osaka's main north-south thoroughfare in the early Showa era, linking Umeda and Namba. The project embodies 2050 Coffee's commitment to sustainable coffee culture, serving as a vital city hub. Lighting was provided by Filaments, with construction by SET UP and furniture by 未来創作所. Kenta Hasegawa captured the project, which was featured in designboom's DIY submissions and edited by Christina Vergopoulou.
