TARWUK's Gesamtkunstwerk Installation at White Cube

TARWUK, the Croatian artist duo of Bruno Pogačnik Tremow and Ivana Vukšić, presents a solo exhibition at White Cube Mason's Yard in London, on view through August 15, 2026. The show, titled 'TARWUK,' is their third with the gallery and features a site-specific installation on the ground floor, complemented by paintings and works on paper displayed separately downstairs. The installation creates an immersive mise-en-scène using fragments of stage architecture, costumes, television sets with video works, and three chairs as metaphoric performers. For the first time, the duo has separated mediums within a single exhibition. The paintings, shown in the lower gallery, are highly textured with motifs of landscapes, architecture, animals, and figurative forms, evoking dreams or ancient mythology. The exhibition draws on the 19th-century concept of gesamtkunstwerk, or 'total work of art,' coined by Richard Wagner, and is inspired by avant-garde collectives from 1960s and 1970s Yugoslavia. TARWUK, based between Croatia and New York, operates as a single pseudonymous entity, describing their practice as a 'condition.'
