Taring Padi's London Exhibition Explores Land Justice and Workers' Rights in Second Chapter

exhibition · 2026-08-28

The exhibition "Rakyat Pasti Menang (The People United Will Never Be Defeated)" by Taring Padi has entered its second chapter at Ibraaz London, running until October 18. It showcases six banners and prints created between 1997 and 2012, along with 12 rontek from 2023. Alexander Supartono, a member of the Indonesian collective, highlights issues surrounding land justice and workers' rights. Among the prominent pieces is Marsinah (1997–98), which pays tribute to the trade unionist who was abducted in 1993. On November 10, 2022, both Marsinah and Suharto were named National Heroes, a move that Taring Padi critiques as politically motivated. The exhibition also features Rebut Kembali Hak Rakyat (1999) and woodcuts such as Buruh Bersatu and Tanah & Petani Merdeka Menghidupi Semua (2003). Taring Padi consists of 15 active members and has worked with various trade unions.
