Tappeto Volante Gallery Opens Shared Space in Tribeca, Manhattan
Tappeto Volante Gallery, founded by curator Paola Gallio in Brooklyn in September 2020, has opened a new shared exhibition space in Tribeca, Manhattan. The gallery, which started during the pandemic, aims to support emerging artists and curators. The new space, called Tappeto Volante Project, is located at 4 Cortland Alley and shares the building with Shrine Gallery, Marge Gallery, and Oolong Gallery. The inaugural exhibition, "Luci Spente (Light Off)" by Italian-born, Brooklyn-based artist Angelo Vasta (b. 1987), opened on May 15 and runs through June 27, 2026. Vasta's show features a new body of works on paper exploring intimacy, perception, and queer experience, with a cinematic quality influenced by his background as a dance filmmaker. Gallio emphasized the gallery's artist-centric approach, contrasting it with market-driven New York galleries. The move to Tribeca is intended to provide greater visibility for their artists, as the Brooklyn location had reached structural limits. Vasta's work has been shown at Rebecca Camacho Presents, Karma Bird House, and Marinaro Gallery, and at fairs like The Armory Show and NADA Miami.
