Tallin's Old Town Urban Void Focus of TAB 2026 Vision Competition Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-10-22

Five winning proposals for the unresolved southern edge of Tallin's historic centre go on view at the Tammsaare Park Open-Air Gallery from 16 October to 12 November 2026. Titled "From Void to Value: Rethinking Tallin's Old Town," the exhibition stems from a vision competition tied to the overall TAB 2026 theme, "How Much?", which probed how physical, social and economic value interact in historic urban settings. Participants were asked to devise strategies for urban resilience and social sustainability, proposing new programmes and spatial interventions for a site shaped by decades of debate, heritage protection and shifting patterns of use. The urban void in question still interrupts the link between the medieval core and the surrounding city. First prize went to "A Place Reclaimed" by Valerii Krinberg, Martin Sepp, Kaari Maria Tirmaste, Mikael Ristmets and Patrick Liik. "Reap What You Sow" by Fred-Eric Pavel and Karmo Viherpuu took second prize, while Michal Romaniuk's "Urban Home" received third. Five honourable mentions round out the display. The show opened on 16 October 2026.
