Takenaka Corporation Completes Nakamura District Office Complex in Japan
Takenaka Corporation has completed the Nakamura District Office Complex, a 17,679 m² government facility built on the site of a former elementary school. The project, finished in 2023, consolidates four previously separate municipal offices — the ward office, public works office, health center, and municipal tax office — onto a single plot. Local government and private-sector functions were arranged around an open space intended to preserve community uses that historically took place on the school grounds, including Bon festival dances and sports. The design team was led by principal architects Daiki Sugimori, Hiroshi Hasegawa, and Takahiro Ito of Takenaka Corporation. Photography was provided by Nakasa & Partners, and the project was curated by Miwa Negoro for ArchDaily's Spanish-language edition. Classified under the Community and Government categories, the complex reflects an approach that integrates administrative services with public gathering space rather than isolating them.
