Sydney Film Festival 2026 to spotlight fashion and cinema with curated Sartorial: Fashion on Film program

Sydney Film Festival 2026 will feature a dedicated program exploring connections between fashion and cinema titled Sartorial: Fashion on Film. Running from 3 to 14 June across Sydney, this curated strand includes multiple feature debuts alongside classic films and documentaries. The centerpiece is Sofia Coppola's documentary Marc by Sofia, offering an intimate portrait of designer Marc Jacobs. Australian short film French Girls, directed by Hyun Lee, will have its world premiere, following a young woman navigating Sydney's modeling industry. Other highlights include Frederick Wiseman's Model, Jia Zhangke's Useless, Agnès Varda's Jane B. par Agnès V., Wim Wenders' Notebook on Cities and Clothes, and Robert Altman's Prêt-à-Porter. SFF Senior Programmer Jessica Moraza notes the series aims to showcase distinctive cinematic perspectives on fashion beyond traditional documentaries. This marks the first announced curated strand for the 2026 festival.
