Syd Mead Retrospective 'Future Pastime' Opens at Transamerica Pyramid Annex Gallery in San Francisco
Tonight, the Transamerica Pyramid Annex Gallery in San Francisco unveils the retrospective exhibition 'Future Pastime,' showcasing the work of futurist Syd Mead. Curated by Elon Solo and William Corman in partnership with MAD Architects, the exhibition features Mead's imaginative concepts, such as intergalactic drives and mechanical dog races. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Mead passed away in 2019 at the age of 86 and contributed to iconic films like Blade Runner and TRON. His detailed gouache paintings act as visions for a 'lived-in' future. This exhibition encourages San Francisco to reflect on its future, thirty years after Mead's final visit. An accompanying article by Silke Tudor was originally published in Hi-Fructose Issue 33.
