Studio TK launches furniture line using Plantd's pressed-grass panels

North Carolina furniture company Studio TK has released the Clique Luxe collection, using pressed-grass panels from manufacturer Plantd as core structural components. The panels, made from fast-growing perennial grasses, replace oriented strand board (OSB) and are marketed as a carbon-negative alternative. Studio TK reported that the panels integrated seamlessly into their CNC workflow, holding staples, nails, and screws without modifications. Plantd co-founder Nathan Slivernail stated the company aims to "reinvent lumber" and lock away carbon, not solve capitalism. Plantd currently has 400 acres of planted grass and has collaborated with construction companies for timber-framed housing. Both companies are based in North Carolina, a hub for furniture manufacturing. Slivernail noted the panels could replace OSB, MDF, and HDF across multiple applications. Studio TK sees potential for wider substitution but acknowledged challenges in replacing plywood due to different performance factors.
